Giving Back to Palmer

Giving Back to Palmer

Kent G. Carlomagno, D.C.
1983 West Campus

I grew up in Marin County in northern California, which is a very progressive area with a multi-faceted culture and people geared mostly toward increasing their own human potential. As a youth in the 1970s, I was involved in such sports as competitive cycling, running (which I still do), racing and riding motocross, and lifting weights in the off season. I had adopted fitness as a part of my life.

My father found relief from an injury and some chronic health problems from a chiropractor in San Rafael, Calif., which ultimately "saved his life" when medicine failed. The chiropractor and I became friends and he wrote a recommendation letter for me to be admitted to the Chiropractic school of my choice. I graduated from Palmer's West Campus in July 1980.

Chiropractic has been a mainstay of my existence because I am an "ad carpe diem" person who has sought and had many an adventure in life. This would not have been possible without a means to obtain it, plus a "can do" philosophy, which I have incorporated in my life from Chiropractic.

The faith, confidence and belief I have integrated from the Chiropractic philosophy has indeed been the underpinning of success in all aspects of my life. Therefore, I would like to give this back to the profession that has given me so much, and I have created an endowment trust for Palmer as part of my will.

When it's all said and done, the old adage "what goes around, comes around" is true, so if I give back to the profession that has given so much to me, it would be in the area of education, not necessarily for students (which is already great at Palmer), but for lay people so they may understand chiropractic and increase the utilization of the many fine doctors in the profession who wish to serve.

Palmer is an outstanding school with state-of-the-art academia, first-class professors and diagnostic education and that's why I chose the College to be part of my will. People have often come into my office looking for a Palmer graduate because the school has the reputation of being the "Harvard of Chiropractic." That speaks for itself!

The benefits of giving this gift are not self serving in any way, but go towards the future to ensure the profession will stay strong and advance in science and acceptance throughout the world. So I'm asking you to give strong consideration to this and donate to the College if you're able to.

May all of you out there live long, positive and prosper!
