Peace of Mind Benefits Endowed Scholarship

Peace of Mind Benefits Endowed Scholarship

Willard M. Smith, DC
1960 Davenport Campus

As a young man, Dr. Willard Smith suffered from migraine headaches and chronic back pain. His wife, Marguerite, insisted he visit a chiropractor. That visit changed his life.

Finally free from pain, Dr. Smith desired to help others by becoming a chiropractor. After graduating from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1960 and in addition to maintaining a private practice, he taught science and technique classes until his retirement in 2000. He is now a professor emeritus of the College.

With uncertainty in the economy, Dr. Smith chose to have some peace of mind by establishing a gift annuity with Palmer College. He is pleased with his decision and states, "I receive an annual payout rate of 7.9%, saved over $4,500 in income taxes and my overall effective investment return was 12.2%. This plan has been great, and best of all, I no longer have to watch the markets go up and down."

Known for his mission trips to the Caribbean and his tireless care to many Quad Citians, Dr. Smith explains, "My philosophy on giving and helping is driven by my faith. I also believe that because of my good health provided by chiropractic, it is my obligation to assist the college and future chiropractic students." After receiving lifetime income, any remaining funds will be added to Palmer's endowed scholarship fund benefiting chiropractic students.
